Summarizing/New Endings

5th Grade
Time Frame:
Three twenty-minute sessions
Using a story from Anthology, students will write a summary without giving the ending away!
Their next challenge is to create a new ending!
First: Choose a partner and together read the story. Together develop a summary about the story they just read. It should grab their audience, but NOT give away details and/or ending. Next they will create a new ending for the story using:
  • audacity ( with script)
  • microsoft word
  • photostory
  • inspiration
Finally, each child should post to their wiki after editing/presenting
  • What GLCE's or other objectives does this activity/lesson project meet?
  • Please include at least one !gnite objective here as well (communication with text and non-text resources, collaboration, higher order thinking skills, problem solving, etc.)
How will you assess the students learning?
Reviewing what a summary should look/sound like- then compare to their own summaries
Rubric for grade/individual expectations
Student evaluations of each others endings...could use Moodle for this or the discussion tabs on their wikis!

Use the Embed Widget tool to add a Discussion Area widget. Bump the number to 100. This will take the comments from the discussion tab and add them to the bottom of the page. This will encourage teacher reflection and modification.
